Should you trust SEO to an in-house person?

SEO and site promotion are important if you want your company to be successful on the Internet. I pointed this out in my January 8, 2008 post because I had just been released from a company where I was actually making progress with SEO. They did not consider SEO to be important enough to even have anyone doing anything towards that end. Once I left (and, of course, removed the links to their site from all of my sites and social networking accounts), their site plumitted in the SERPs. I guess I was actually making some progress.

Once you have made the correct decision, which is that SEO IS imporant to your company, who is going to do it? Before the who, I can tell you that it will take a long time so you should expect to have someone doing this job full time…if you want good results.

You should be careful who you having doing this job. In Scott Buresh’s article in WebProNews, he indicates that if you have someone on yout IT staff do this for you, it may have a negative impact on your site’s position. The IT person will most-likely not be up on the white-hat vs. black-hat tactics being used and they may decide to do something that will be hard to undo down the road.

On the flip side, Scott indicates that if you do go out and hire someone for this job, be prepared to pay a pretty penny. These guys are expensive. “…if you were looking to hire someone with more than five years of
experience in search engine marketing, you could expect to pay between
$100,000 and $200,000 per year.”
I’ll do it for around $125,000/year, or $75/hour.

The point is, make sure you have the right person performing SEO and site promotion duties for your site.

Did the unnamed company rely on web traffic and advertising as it primary source of income? I am constantly amazing by companies that are relying on web traffic as part of the business model, but the model does not include a mention of SEO or understand its importance.

’til this day I still don’t understand the concept of SEO, but I’ve been using that ALL IN ONE SEO PACK plugin and it seems to be working :)

As a matter of fact, yes. The company relied on site advertising as their only source of income. I don’t think they will be around much longer.

I am too using ALL IN ONE SEO Pack Plugin and i guess its working for me fine. I know SEO is important for a company but today only i come to know how much amount they (SEO) charged a year to provide this service.
